SocialCapital™ is a tool that makes it easy to tell your congressman and other public officials how you feel about a variety of energy issues—Climate Bill, Energy Taxes, Domestic Access—that are important to you, on the social networks that you are already on, such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

By posting a message on a public official’s Facebook page, sending them a tweet or commenting on a video on their YouTube channel, you can send a personal yet public message about where you stand. Because these platforms are inherently social, this action also alerts your friends, family and colleagues that you took a stand, encouraging them to become engaged and involved as well. We created it as a widget, so you can easily embed it into your blog, on Facebook or other Web sites.

Just as public officials are using social media to tell constituents where they stand on the issues, we the people have an opportunity to tell our representatives what we believe in and how we think they should vote on the important issues of the day.

How do I use SocialCapital™?

  • Step 1: Select an issue
  • Step 2: Select your state
  • Step 3: Choose a public official to contact
  • Step 4: Pick a platform (e.g., Facebook, YouTube, e-mail)

That’s all there is to it. Once you are on one of the platforms, you can send a message directly to any member of Congress and even federal agency officials. For example, if you choose Access as your issue, you can send a comment directly to the Minerals Management Service (MMS). You can also sign-up for the Partnership for America’s Energy Security by clicking on “Get Involved.”

For your convenience, we’ve made the widget available in two sizes, so you can choose to embed the one that best fits your needs: the vertical/sidebar version to the right, and the square/body version below. Click the “Share” button on either to grab the embed code or explore other ways to share the widget.

Congress will soon consider massive new taxes — roughly $80 billion — on America's oil and natural gas industry, yet this level could produce devastating effects on our economy, all when America can least afford it.

Learn more and tell Congress to oppose these proposals. By using SocialCapital, you can voice your opinions to public officials and members of Congress about key energy issues via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and more.
