George is a geophysicist for Marathon Oil, based in Houston. He studies seismic data to learn where oil and natural gas deposits are located thousands of feet beneath the surface. He has been with the company 23 years – during which he has seen the oil and natural gas industry make quantum technological leaps in the search for energy:
“When I started the most sophisticated piece of equipment in my office was my telephone. All the data I worked with was on paper. I used colored pencils to color it up, and all the maps that I made were drawn by hand. Now all the data and interpretations are digital…I can actually visualize everything in 3D, just like the movies. What’s exciting about my job is the hunt for oil and gas.”
