The U.S. oil and natural gas industry has invested over $252 billion since 1990 toward improving the environmental performance of its products, facilities and operations; $810 for every man, woman and child in the United States.
In the year 2011 alone, $12.9 billion was spent on the environment; $11.0 billion was spent implementing new technologies, creating cleaner fuels and funding ongoing environmental initiatives. An additional $1.9 billion went toward research and development, corporate environmental programs and spill remediation efforts.
